چکیده

In the current research, we investigated the effects of exposure to sexist humor on male selfreported rape proclivity and perceptions of rape. We also considered the role of type of rape. Male students were exposed to either sexist or non-sexist jokes and either a stranger rape or an acquaintance rape scenario. We found the highest levels of self-reported rape proclivity and victim blame in the sexist joke-acquaintance rape condition compared to the other conditions. We also found the lowest levels of perceived seriousness of rape and recommended sentence in the sexist joke-acquaintance rape condition compared to the other conditions Current Research in Social Psychology (Vol. 13, No. 10) (Viki et al.)

Blitz rape is characterized by sudden surprise attack by an unknown assailant using force or the threat of violence to gain control over the victim. In confidence rape, the assailant is known to some...

Rape perception and the function of ambivalent sexism and gender-role traditionality.

This study explores the roles of benevolent sexism (BS), hostile sexism (HS), and gender-role traditionality (GRT) in minimizing rape, blaming the victim, and excusing the rapist. As predicted, hostile sexists minimize the seriousness of the rape in both stranger and date-rape scenarios. In the victim-blame scale, both BS and GRT significantly moderate victim blame in a date but not stranger sc...

Feelings of wantedness and consent during nonconsensual sex: Implications for posttraumatic cognitions.

Social-cognitive models of traumatic stress have urged researchers to investigate the complex changes in victims' systems of belief following trauma. Among victims of rape, posttraumatic cognitions related to self-blame, safety, trust, intimacy, control, power, and esteem are common negative outcomes; yet there is great variability in the degree to which rape victims exhibit these reactions, an...
